Photo Diary: Hampstead Heath Hill Gardens and Pergola in the Rain

Hampstead Heath is such a beautiful part of north-west London all-year round, but I never realised how much more in the rain. Me and Jack found out by accident last weekend as I'd wanted to find the Hill Garden and Pergola for ages, and it just so happened to pour it down all day. Despite the miserable weather, we decided to head to Golders Green regardless as it was still a lovely walk through the park.

It's a more northern part of the Heath, so it makes sense to get the tube to Golders Green instead of Hampstead! We were also excited to find that this Golders Green park also had a small zoo with owls, birds of prey and a deer enclosure.

It was so peaceful to wander through the park despite the incessant rain, as it was completely empty. Eventually, we found the Hill Garden and Pergola, tucked away in the deeper forest, and the views were breathtaking.

There's so many cute little nooks and crannys within the pergola area to explore. Built in 1904 by philanthropist Lord Leverhulme, the place has a distinct feeling of grandeur from a previous time but it felt eerie and beautiful too. The rain made this all the more special, as we saw practically no one other than a few dog walkers, leaving us to wander around at our own leisure.

If you look carefully in the last photo, you can see some specs of rain which I was proud to be able to capture! It can feel a bit frustrating when it rains in London, as we thought it had scuppered our plans for the day. Instead, I was so glad we braved the downpour and I can't wait to go back again!
